Kamel the Camel is an edutainment platform I created with a bold mission: to make learning Arabic dialects—starting with the Tunisian dialect—engaging, accessible, and fun for all ages. Inspired by the interactive experience of language apps like Duolingo, the project combines gamification, storytelling, and cultural richness in a way that resonates with both children and adults.
The Idea Behind the Camel
Language is more than words—it’s identity, culture, and connection. Yet, Arabic dialects, particularly Tunisian, have been underrepresented in digital learning platforms. With Kamel the Camel, I wanted to bridge that gap by offering a culturally authentic, humorous, and educational experience that helps learners truly connect with the dialect.
Kamel, the friendly cartoon camel mascot, guides users through lessons, quizzes, and interactive stories, making the learning process both intuitive and entertaining.
Features
Interactive Courses: Structured lessons focused on greetings, expressions, self-introductions, numbers, animals, daily conversations, directions, and more.

Designed for Families & Kids: The friendly design and simplified explanations make it perfect for children and parents alike.
My Role
As the creator and lead developer, I was responsible for:
Designing the app architecture and user experience
Developing the frontend using Next.js, React Native, and Tailwind CSS
Implementing authentication via Clerk, data integration with PostgreSQL/Neon, and media storage via AWS S3
Writing the educational content, with lessons carefully structured and culturally relevant
Managing the roadmap, user testing, and MVP launch
A Project With Purpose
Kamel the Camel is not just a tech product—it’s a passion project rooted in cultural preservation and accessibility. It serves as a learning bridge for:
Tunisian diaspora families raising children abroad
Language learners and travelers curious about Arabic dialects
Educators and schools seeking engaging ways to teach spoken Arabic
The long-term vision is to expand Kamel’s journey to other Arabic dialects and incorporate AI-driven personalized learning.
