Fix Kairouan is a civic-tech initiative I launched in May 2013 with a clear mission: to help citizens of Kairouan report, share, and discuss local issues directly with their municipal authorities. By leveraging the power of digital tools and community collaboration, this platform bridges the gap between residents and decision-makers to promote transparency, accountability, and improved urban living.
About the Platform
Fix Kairouan is a web-based solution that allows users to geolocate and report a wide range of public issues by simply placing a pin on a map and submitting a short description, category, and optional photo. The system automatically sends the report to the relevant municipal council via email.
The project focuses primarily on issues that are broken, damaged, dirty, abandoned, or in need of repair or cleaning, including:
Potholes and broken roads
Unregulated construction
Garbage and waste
Neglected buildings
Environmental hazards
Other urban nuisances
Beyond reporting, users can engage in discussions around specific issues and collaborate to increase pressure on local councils—or even take collective action to resolve problems themselves.
User-Friendly and Mobile-Ready
Designed with accessibility in mind, Fix Kairouan is mobile-responsive, ensuring that users can report issues quickly and efficiently on the go. The interface adapts to different screen sizes and devices, making it easy for anyone to contribute—anytime, anywhere.
Social Impact and Civic Vision
This volunteer-led project was inspired by a vision of participatory governance and active citizenship. It encourages transparency in public affairs and empowers the people of Kairouan to be part of the solution.
Fix Kairouan was also a stepping stone in my journey as a socially conscious technologist. It combined my technical expertise with my deep interest in civic innovation, setting the foundation for a career at the intersection of data, digital transformation, and public service.
